The BRACE MicroNet was implemented in October 2002, following an identified need in the business community for support of the many businesses within the Ballarat and surrounding district.
Research of various business networks in Ballarat at the time, returned that no network existed to cater to the needs of micro businesses. As a result of the research the following issues were identified that effected micro businesses:
- Isolation
- No sense of community involvement
- Lack of knowledge regarding community and businesses resources
- Lack of knowledge regarding educational or professional
- Development opportunities
- Lack of availability to skills development
- Financial restrictions regarding marketing opportunities
- Lack of ability for the development of strategic alliances
- Lack of availability for start-up funds
- Lack of financing opportunities
- No voice, no power, no support
- All of these issues are magnified for regional businesses
